What is DEFRA?

DEFRA is the government body responsible for testing and approving solid fueled heating appliances for use in smoke control zones. Burning logs - Logs may only be burnt on stoves that have been granted exemption from the regulations by the government through DEFRA. These have passed tests to confirm that they are capable of burning an un-authorised or inherently smoky solid fuel without emitting smoke.

Open Fronted High Efficiency Gas Fires

At Fires2u we always like to offer our customers the very latest gas fire technology on the market and that is why we are very excited to tell you about the latest fires introduced by Flavel and Verine Fires - Open Fronted High Efficient gas fire

Open Fronted HE gas fire
provide the same look and feel of a real open fire but have net efficiencies of up to 74%! But how does this work? Well these type of gas fires which were designed by Flavel and Verine have both radiant and convected heat. The radiant heat is emitted from the coal effect fuel bed and the convected heat is generated by cool air drawn into the base of the fire which passes through a heat exchanger and is then emitted as warm air through the gap above th canopy. The result produces a stunning realistic open fronted gas fire with exceptional heat output combined with lower running costs compared to standard gas fires.

Portuguese limestone
This is natural stone, cut straight from the earth. The stone is sedimentary limestone formed over 50 million years ago. The characteristic darker veins on the light background, intermingled with fossils of plants and animal life all add to the beauty and individuality of this great material.

Jurastone
This includes suites made from natural materials and utilises an innovative finishing technique. JURA-STONE is made from sheets of natural solid marble and then coated with one of two great finishes. These finishes are the smooth Cotswold and the slightly textured Chiltern. Both finishes give a consistent appearance of stone. These type of suites start from as little as £327 in the fireplace Durrington suite range and this price even includes vat and delivery.

Marble, Micro Marble and Granite

Gas Safety Week

Gas Safety Week started yesterday and has been set up by Gas safe to aim to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas fires. Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas fires can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas. You can’t see it, taste it or smell it, but it can kill quickly with no warning. Gas safe have therefore created this week to highlight the importance of taking care of all your gas appliances including gas fires.
